• Geysir in Iceland

Geysers of Iceland

The name Geysir in the english language takes after the Great Geysir in Haukadalur as it was the first geyser mentioned in printed source and the first one known to modern Europeans.

Iceland is home to some of the most phenomenal geysers in the world. Given the high rate of volcanic activity, it is no wonder that Icelandic geysers and hot springs are distributed all over the island. Many of the geysers of Iceland are located in the south of Iceland in the valley of Haukadalur. Icelandic geysers are known to have existed in at least a dozen other areas on the island. The Great Geysir, which first erupted in the 14th century, gave rise to the word geyser. Geysers are natural features resulting when ground water is heated by geothermal forces and brought to the surface. Icelandic geysers will definitely provide a spectacular sight of boiling water eruptions, vivid colours and strange formations. The geysers of Iceland are marvels of nature that should not be missed!
