*HONESTY POLICY
Pink Iceland is a privately owned company and as such it needs to make a profit. This profit pays the salaries of its staff, the rent, the wonderful and informative Pink Iceland website not to mention copious amounts of coffee for the owners. Most of Pink Iceland’s money is made through commissions. This is how it works: If our guests let us book their tours, activities, and accommodation we collect a small (usually 10-15%) commission of the price. This basically means that you pay the same price, regardless of whether you book directly – or through us. You may think this might cause us to recommend really expensive accommodation and tours. Not so. We promise to do our utmost to come up with a plan that suits you, and your budget. We would never recommend anything without full confidence and/or personal experience of what’s on offer. Our primary goal is working with and for the LGBTQI community and without the community’s support or goodwill we wouldn’t have lasted six months in the business. It is not least through word of mouth that we grow stronger every day. Our hope is that after reading this you too will ask for our recommendations and advice and/or book your holiday through us.

Innovation Award in 2012
Pink Iceland received the 2012 Innovation award from the Travel Industry Association. The award was presented to us by the President of Iceland.

IGLTA member
Pink Iceland is a proud member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association and takes proactively part in their work.

Mountain Guides Iceland

In 1994, a group of Icelanders with a passion for nature, adventure and environmental advocacy started an outdoor adventure company to take people from around the world on tours of a lifetime. As the originators of the Glacier Walk in Iceland, they revolutionized the outdoor adventure scene. Since the beginning, Icelandic Mountain Guides has been owned and operated by guides and we continue to set the standard in safety, mountaineering expertise, and environmental protection across the industry in Iceland.

We operate from our company headquarters in Reykjavík and our base camp in the beautiful Skaftafell National Park year round. Whether you want to go hiking, backpacking, trekking, ice climbing, on a glacier walk, mountain climbing, skiing, on an expedition or for a mountaineering course in Iceland or Greenland, we’ve got you covered! We provide one day and multi-day tours, for all activity levels, that highlight the rugged beauty of these countries. Join us on an unforgettable journey and see for yourself why everyone is raving about Iceland and Greenland.

Our Environmental Policy = Nature First
Icelandic tourism depends on the continued prosperity of our delicate nature. In all the activities and experiences we offer, our goal is to minimize the environmental impact and leave no trace when we travel. Our philosophy includes supporting local NGOs and taking an active part in discussing the development of wilderness and open spaces.

Into The Glacier Iceland

Into the Glacier offers various tours to Iceland‘s most significant new attraction, the man – made ice cave. The ice tunnel and the caves are located high on Iceland‘s second largest glacier, Langjökull. You will get an amazing opportunity to explore the glacier and see it from the inside. This is once in a lifetime experience where you will be taken to the hidden beautiful ice.

The Long Glacier (1355m) is the second largest in Iceland. It has an area of about 950 km² and most of it rises between 1200 and 1300 m above sea level. It rests on a massif of hyaloclastite mountains. They rise highest under its southern and northern parts, but have not yet been researched thoroughly. The Glaciological Society owns a hut at the foot of the nunatak Fjallkirkjan (1228m).

The southwestern part of the ice cap is called Geitlandsjokull. It rises to the elevation of 1400 meters. On a fine day the view from up there is excellent. To the south of Geitlandjokull and separated from the main ice cap, is the smaller, 1350 meters high Thorisjokull on top of an irregular table mountain. According to the legend, it was named after the troll Thorir, who lived in a green valley in the pass between the glaciers.

Until now, what lies under the surface of the Langjokull glacier, has been a mystery, known only by a small group of scientists and glaciologists. In 2010 however, Baldvin Einarsson and Hallgrimur Örn Arngrímsson had a bold and daring vision, to take people not just around and onto, but also inside the heart of the remote and extraordinary glacier ice cap, to see the magnificent “blue ice” which is buried deep beneath the surface. With this bold idea in mind, top engineers and renowned geo physicist and presidential candidate, Ari Trausti Guðmundsson, began studying, planning, modelling and carefully preparing for constructions. And perhaps against the odds, what started as a dream, rapidly became a reality, as passion, energy, enthusiasm and drive, combined with science, engineering, finance and political support, made it possible to shape the first and biggest man-made Ice Cap Glacier Ice Cave.

Local Guide Vatnajökull Glacier

Local guide is a small family run glacier guiding company that has been operating in South East Iceland since 1991. The company was founded by my grandfather Sigðurður Bjarnason but since 2015 myself and my partner Helen Maria have taken over a part of the company.

We are proud to maintain the excellent reputation of Local Guide and we pride ourselves on hiring local guides with an excellent knowledge of the area and the island as a whole and offering small group tours to enhance your experience.

Whilst the company was established in 1991, we are three generations of glacier guides and up to five generations of explorers in the area, one of the first men to climb the highest summit in Iceland Hvannadalshnúkur, on the 17th of August 1891 was my great grandfather Páll Jónsson.

In the summer months we offer hiking on the glacier with half day hikes, family tours and full day advanced tours for those with experience who want an adventure on the ice. During the winter months from October to March we offer ice caving tours.

Me and my father were the first people to offer regular ice cave tours in Iceland and we are continuing to offer this service, we strive to find the best available caves to offer the best experience possible for our guests.

As a small company we love the flexibility this gives us to be able offer private tours and to work on exciting projects for photography, film and print, we are always open to new possibilities so would welcome your inquiry.

We hope that you will enjoy your tour with local guide and we look forward to meeting you.

Glacier Guides Iceland

We offer trips into the Ice fall

Numerous outlet glaciers descend from the main glacier plateau of Vatnajökull, all unique in shape, form and accessibility. We offer amazing glacier hikes on the most beautiful one of the bunch, the Falljökull. The ice slowly crawls down from the Öræfajökull caldera (just under 1900m) and falls to about 300 m elevation giving our glacier the well suited name Falljökull which translates to „Falling Glacier“. Our Glacier Explorer, Glacier Grand Slam and Glacier Extreme trips give you a chance to stand or ice-climb inside the magnificent Icefall created by the moving ice.

We cater for a range of fitness abilities
Because of Falljökull´s gradient the front of the glacier is low angle and offers a great variety of glacial features as soon as you take your first steps on crampons. These include the infamous glacier mouse, crevasses, moulins and often smaller ice caves. On our longer hikes you get a chance to put your new crampon skills to the test as we move into the icefall for an exploration or an Ice-climb.

Our guides and staff
This one you will just have to experience yourself but we think they are the most humble, happy, eager to please and honest people we know. Most of them have been with us from the start and their knowledge of the area is uncanny at times which is a bonus for our guests. Please do not take our word for it- check out tripadvisor.com and see what others had to say.

Experience the retreat of the glacier first-hand
Making your way to the glacier from the parking lot, you will witness how much the glacier has retreated and see the evidence it has left in it´s path. The walk into the glacier takes on average 20 minutes and is a great part of the over all experience.

Amazing Views
On the walk in, weather permitting, you can see Iceland’s highest peak Hvannadalshjnúkur, along with Falljökull´s brother, Virkisjökull, falling from the high caldera. As we move up and look back you will see evidence of the glacial retreat along with the distant black sands, cut by glacier rivers, blending into the North Atlantic ocean providing a magnificent backdrop.

Glacier water
With clear glacial melt-water running on the glaciers surface in multiple streams you can take a sip and fill up your bottles with the best water Iceland has to offer before it makes it´s way to the murky glacier river and eventually to the ocean.

Sheep
Each spring the farmers let the sheep roam freely to make their way into the highlands, on our hikes it is an amazing sight to see them carefully make their way above vertical walls dropping into the valley in search of the perfect patch of grass.
